On May 11th, the Saturday Uptown Market in Mt. Lebanon became more than just a place for local vendors—it turned into a hub of humanitarian outreach. Mt. Lebanon High School students, in collaboration with Communicycle, organized a bike collection drive with a powerful purpose: to aid the war-torn village of Zorya in Ukraine’s Mykolaiv region, a community devastated by Russian artillery.
The students’ efforts led to the collection of over 40 bikes, providing much-needed mobility to individuals in Zorya, where roads remain impassable by car. These bikes represent more than just transportation; they symbolize hope and a step toward normalcy for children and families enduring the harsh realities of war.
These high school students, their collaborative community-driven initiatives can transcend borders, no matter the age of the individuals.
