After promoting the Girls Lead ACT in Congress, I became deeply passionate about the importance of personal autonomy to prevent abuse. In 2022, amid the heated debates surrounding the potential overturning of Roe v. Wade, our focus shifted towards supporting abortion clinics in Pittsburgh. Although some of our efforts were met with challenges, and several clinics were ultimately forced to close, we were able to redirect the donated medical supplies from these facilities—such as ultrasound machines, hospital beds, masks, sterilization equipment, and empty needles—to those in need.
Thanks to the leadership of Student President Vanshika Jain, these supplies were donated to DTCare, which utilized them to establish a hospital in Zimbabwe, South Africa. Despite the setbacks we faced, this initiative not only extended the life of essential medical equipment but also made a tangible difference in a community far beyond our border.
